WANNA SUBMIT TO APPLESAUCE?
APPLESAUCE has an open submissions policy. This means: anyone that WANTS to submit work CAN submit work. All artwork belongs to the artist/creator it originated from and APPLESAUCE reserves the right to print it TWICE (once in the regular magazine and once, if chosen, in the BEST OF APPLESAUCE annual which will be compiled and published to debut at San Diego 2002). Please bear in mind that invitees, or professional creators which are asked to participate in the magazine, will sometimes be included at the expense of someone who might not be as well known. This doesn't mean we don't like you or your work, but we may hold off publishing it till time and space permits. Of course, this will probably only occur on RARE occasions, but at least you've been warned. ;)

This is definitely a labor of love and should be treated as such. Please send us whatever you have: unpublished work, stuff we can reprint, anything. If it gets used, you will receive a copy of the issue in the mail (and a couple of comps for friends, family, convention tables, etc.). Contributors are encouraged to distribute copies in their own local areas and will be provided with copies upon publication of their work. Distribution will mainly center around college campuses, coffeehouses, clubs, head shops, and music stores.

as for how to get the work to me:

you can mail it to: Cat Garza, 411 East Madison, Harlingen, Texas 78550

or you can email it to me at: cgarza@panam.edu

The files should be at least twice the intended print size at 100-150 dpi. in high res .jpg format. all comics are in black and white for now but hopefully color can come soon if we can afford it. i'm also looking into spot printing so that we can produce some pages in two or three colors as revenue picks up. Black and white strips would work best, but greyscaling is OK. the easiest way to get the images to me would be to email me the files. make sure the dimensions of the file are twice whatever you'd want it printed at and saved as a high res jpg at about 100-150 dpi. most strips should fit within a 6.5" x 10.5" space. if your piece is the size of two comics pages, we can probably line them up side by side in this space. this is going to be a tricky bitch to layout since the tabloid size is so irregular to comics. i'll be laying the whole thing out, so don't worry *too* much about your submission's size, i'm going to get this thing laid out in a way that will fit everyone's comics and still be aesthetically pleasing. make sure you include your name somewhere in the work and don't be afraid to plug your websites, etc. Feel free to mail in submissions, just make sure they're really good photocopies that i can scan in. PLEASE, NO ORIGINAL ART!!! If you HAVE to mail me originals, please include a self addressed stamped envelope so i can return them to you!

APPLESAUCE was the name of my first zine back in my college days and this new publication will continue the tradition of subculture entertainment we specialized in in those days. Wit and intellegence are appreciated, i don't mind use of language or adult themes, but nothing XXX, just like a soft R or bawdy PG please. this is also an opportunity for us to establish a venue for our work that conforms to our own terms.

anyone that contributes to APPLESAUCE is part of the crew and welcome to continue publishing stuff with us (depending on room and quality of the entries). Please consider contributing something to APPLESAUCE!!
