IT'S FINALLY HERE!
first issue of APPLESAUCE rolls off the presses in 45 minutes flat!
Jan. 8, 2002, Tuesday morning, 8 a.m.
Edinburg Daily Review offices, Edinburg Texas.
Bleary eyed from a long night of paste-up (yes, paste-up) I found myself at the DAILY REVIEW in Edinburg with the first issue of APPLESAUCE and a fist full of dollars. It had been a long time since I'd done anything through them and I had forgotten just how archaic and wonderful their process really is. You can imagine how surprised I was to find out that they would not only run the paper for me that morning, but could complete it in 45 minutes if I was willing to wait. They shot the film, burned the plates, and loaded up the printing machine and were loading the back of my car with freshly printed copies in a little less than the promised 45. And so it goes that in the midst of the online comics revolution and the "death of print" that we here at APPLESAUCE have decided to venture forth with this new and exciting publication. A bimonthly (or twice quarterly) comix zine printed on newsprint, tabloid size, and delivered to a coffeeshop, tattoo parlor, or record store near you. APPLESAUCE features the work of some of the most talented cartoonists in alternative press today as well as highlighting the work of many up and comers you may not have seen before! Please explore this site to find out how you too can get a copy!
Also, we've made available Cat's own zine, YackitySmackity, for you to view. Click on the cover to the left to check it out!
